For Bernard et Clotilde Barto, architects of La Perouse, there can be no innovation without the perpetual revising of tradition. For this reason, they draw on classical references, particularly those that symbolize the local Nantes region.
Like so many buildings in Nantes, the hotel leans to one side, as if it were sinking. In the words of its creators, this building has been built to be here and no place else. Like other Nantes buildings, it appears to be sinking. It’s heavy and compact like a private Nantes mansion. It prolongs the rooftops, completes the block, identifies its location: it is embedded in its urban reality.
